Targeting desired outcomes

In teaching character, the most critical step is what you can do to hit the target of helping students to grow emotionally morally and academically.  Defining the target or desired outcome is essential for true learning to take place.

Here is a quick goal setting process for you to consider when teaching character.  Is it:

P – Purposeful

P – Pervasive

C- Creative

C – Concrete

If we reflect on our district/school mission statement, how does what we say we believe to be important address the “purposeful” aspect of a character instruction? What are we already doing as a school or within our classrooms to ensure that our character education instructional process is – pervasive, creative, and concrete?
