Pillar: Responsibility
Purpose: Students discuss and write about what it means to be responsible and how they can demonstrate responsibility in their personal affairs.
Objectives:
- Students will read and discuss the “Whose Responsibility?” story.
- Students will list and discuss what responsibility looks like at home, at school, and at work, and what they could do better or differently to be more responsible in each environment.
Discussion: Ask students to discuss the following story:
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when actually Nobody asked Anybody.
Activity:
Ask students to make a list of ways they demonstrate responsibility at home, in school, and at work. Students should list their duties in each area and provide examples of how they fulfill those duties. Then, ask students to write what they could do better or differently to be more responsible in each environment.
