How do you support and encourage student to make good choices? Having students make good and responsible decisions pulls character development and social emotional learning together. This competency reflects the ability for students to make decisions that are ethically effective and socially responsible. A process is shared for helping students make good decisions along with specific ways one could teach decision-making.

  1. Why is it important for our school to help students make effective and ethical decisions as a key component of our CHARACTER COUNTS! initiative?

  2. The success of what it is we do related to character is not about our intentions but about our actions. What does this statement mean as it relates to character and decision-making?

  3. How can decision-making be an integral part of any discussion we have with students around the pillars of character and social and emotional skills?

  4. What would you like to have your students consider when having to make a decision that might have monumental consequences?
