Thanking everyday heroes

Everyday Hero

Part of teaching respect is encouraging students to think about the people who work every day to keep us safe and healthy. While most kids can probably name several superheroes, in this lesson, students consider the meaning of the word “hero” and where heroes might be found in real life. After brainstorming, students create outlines and write thank-you letters to show their respect for those who serve in our communities. This lesson for grades 3-5 ties in well with National Police Week (usually the third week in May), but there is never a wrong time to thank our everyday heroes!
