"Taking a Stand": Scene 5

5. PASSING PERIOD

BOB
Well, lunch is over and it’s passing period.
Let’s see how these students treat each other.

Kids enter from either side and drop trash as they walk. Some speak before they throw the trash.

SANDY
I disrespect people everyday with my trash.

WALLY
They can walk through my garbage. I don’t care.

MOE
It’s no big deal. I’m a trashy person.

BOB
And listen to how they talk.

A sound effect is used for every swear word.

SPIKE
Hey you-----------

SANDY
Hey!----------------------------you too!

BOB
What kind of community is this?
I don’t think you would have much respect
for these people if you were a stranger at
this school. When you iitter and use foul
language, you disrespect other people.
(Mosey Dali and Friends enter)
Oh look. It’s Mosey Dali and the Slow Club.

MOSEY
We never get to class on time. Too slow.

BOB
Not much character there. It’s too bad they’re
not willing to represent themselves better.
Let’s cut to after school.
The biggest fear of putting a kid in a new
school is that the first people they make friends
with are the wrong ones. Cory has decided
he wants to be friends with the new kid.
Stacy doesn’t know what to do. She hasn’t
had a chance to make any other friends.
