What Will Matter 625.5

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours, or days.
All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame, and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.
So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.

It won’t matter where you came from or what side of the tracks you lived on at the end.
It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.
So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?

What will matter is not what you bought but what you built; not what you got but what you gave.
What will matter is not your success but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered, or encouraged others to emulate your example.

What will matter is not your competence but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew but how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.
What will matter are not your memories but the memories that live in those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom, and for what.

Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s not a matter of circumstance but of choice.
Choose to live a life that matters.

This is Michael Josephson reminding you that character counts.

These simple but powerful words brought me to tears. As I still mourn the loss of my dad over 3 years ago, I cannot help but contrast his life and teaching with that of the likes of people like Bernie Madoff. You eloquently stated what my dad had said to me all my life. Keep writing, Mr. Josephson. Your words and comments on character give me hope for a better world.

This is so profound. It should be printed on the front page of every newspaper in America (to start with) - A1 - above the fold.

Truly I thank you, Michael Josephson, for great and enlightening statements to live by.

Mr. Josephson, your words are beautiful and so profound. These words should be sent to everyone. I love all of your writings. Thank you for your words of wisdom.

I really appreciate the message here. Simply, thank you.

These words apply to Michael Jackson in the hearts and minds of so many of his millions of fans. All that matters now is the beautiful music he made and all the good he did for this world while we were so blessed to have him on it.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your commentaries have touched and changed not only my life but the lives around me. I would be more specific, but I would end up writing a book. I will be forever grateful! Thank you, thank you!!

"What Will Matter" has touched my heart & soul that no words can describe how it makes me feel! I watch it every day. It is a real inspiration to me, Thanx so very much. I so would like to be able to obtain a copy to be played @ my funeral, hoping it also would have an impact on others as it has me.
