Students at Potomac State College noticed something new in the quad when they returned to campus in the fall of 2004: Six concrete pillars now circled the flagpole.
It was just the beginning of the CC! program there. A CC! committee had formed, chaired by biology instructor Tim Turner. "We decided that an effective way to introduce the campaign to students, as well as to faculty and staff, was to put it before their eyes everyday, and we literally did that with the distribution of day planners," he told the Keyser Mineral Daily News. "Not only do these planners allow students to write down assignments and test dates and refer to periodic tables of elements and other reference pages; but most importantly, these planners feature well-known individuals who exemplify the various pillars of character."
The campaign also regularly highlights a student who exemplifies the Pillar of the Month.
"These Six Pillars of Character serve as ethical values to guide our choices, improve the quality of our decisions, our characters and our lives," said Interim President Dr. Kerry Odell.
