Jackson County, MS: Character is Beautiful in Jackson County School District

Teachers from all 16 campuses in the Jackson County School District took part in character training during CC! Week. Meanwhile, the students created a colorful fall display.

It began at the Jackson County Technology Center, where students in the building trades classes cut out scarecrows and the Six Pillars of Character in the shape of columns. Next, at Vancleave High, the geometry class measured and graphed the letters for the names on the Pillars, such as ‘Respect,” and the art department painted the scarecrows and Pillars. Then the building trades students set them up as a fall display with pumpkins, flowers, the legend “CHARACTER COUNTS! in Jackson County Schools,” and, over it all, an American flag.

In a parallel activity, students in the English classes wrote children’s stories illustrating the Six Pillars. These will be laminated, bound together, and read to elementary school pupils. The stories will then go to the elementary library.
