St. Johns County, FL: 100 New Teachers Attend CC! Training

In July 2004, over 100 new teachers in the St. Johns County School District underwent an induction training workshop in which they learned about CC!. The three-day session took place at Sebastian Middle School, and though it covered much else besides CC!, CC! was a basic topic.

Helen DiMare, grants coordinator, said that CC! is "not just for the school system, it's for the whole community. It's part of what we do and it's part of what we are." She observed that each teacher should merge the Six Pillars into their lessons. "We expect you to do that and we know you can do that," DiMare said, according to the St. Augustine Record.

Diane Solms, director for instructional services, added, "Children need to know you care. They don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."

New teacher Amy Eisler felt the talk was helpful. "I'm glad we spent time going over it," she said.
