Brush, CO: 4th Grader Win First Place in "Trustworthiness" Drawing/Essay Contest

Austin Hinojos, a fourth grader at Beaver Valley Elementary School, won first place and $50 on January 12, 2004, in the Morgan County Family and Community Education Council's drawing/essay contest on "Trustworthiness."

The CC!-themed competition took place September through November, 2003. Each entrant drew a picture about the Pillar of trustworthiness and wrote a 50-100-word story about the image.

Austin ’s drawing and essay will now go on to the Colorado Family and Community Education Council for state competition.

Reynaldo Ruedas, a fourth grader at Columbine Elementary in Fort Morgan , won second place and $30. Sandrina Hallahan, a fourth grader at Beaver Valley Elementary, won third place and $20, and Amanda Jarrell, a fourth grader at Beaver Valley, took honorable mention and $10.

Classroom winners received $5 for first place, $3 for second and $2 for third.

Those winners at Beaver Valley Elementary were: Mrs. Crosthwait's class: Victoria Milano, Alysse Milano and Rhianna Richter; Mrs. Magnuson's class: Paxton Segelke, Selena Batrez and Gregory Mares; Mrs. Lynch's class: Austin Hinojos, Tia Pursel and Gevirye Suleyman; Mrs. Hughes' class: Lauren Bellendir, Dylan Cooper and Crystal Luark; Miss Curtis' class: Atnanda Tarell, Samantha Diaz and Ashley Genrge.

The winners at Riverview Christian School were: Sarah James, Tessa Riter and Bryant Woodward. The placing at Columbine Elementary School in Fort Morgan is: Mrs. Amen's class: Reynaldo Ruedas, Hallie Lebsock and Whitney Edwards; Miss Wright's class: Marina Campa, Ariel Jiminez and Josh Amen, and Mrs. Giest's class: Katrina Funderhide, Kaitlin Carpenter and Jessica Sanchez.

Contest sponsors included the Association of Morgan County Commercial Banks, Don's Auto Body and Paint Shop Inc. of Fort Morgan, Charlene Holzworth of State Farm Insurance of Fort Morgan, and Erma Hines of Fort Morgan. Wal-Mart and The Flower Petaler of Fort Morgan provided refreshments.
