Redstone Arsenal, AL: Youth Center Integrates CC! Into Monthly Themes

Both SAS and YS at Redstone Arsenal have incorporated CHARACTER COUNTS! into the programming. CC! activities have included the CC! Youth Installation Forum, quarterly classes on CC!, and integration of CC! activities into monthly themes.

A Youth Installation Forum took place at the Youth Center on October 18, 2003. Some 50 middle school and teen youth attended, including members of the Redstone community and their guests. The attendees participated in various Six Pillar activities such as a trust walk, egg drop, making "respectacles," and role playing. The youth also had a group discussion in which they talked about issues related to CHARACTER COUNTS!.

Quarterly CC! sessions also take place at the Youth Center, all of them open to the Redstone community. These mini-sessions promote character among Army teens and middle schoolers. The teen coordinator and the TAPS facilitate them.

At SAS the children develop their own monthly themes embodying CC! principles. For example, during February the activities in the service areas will include African-American history and will feature the Pillar of respect. The children will learn about diversity, tolerance and understanding.
