In June 2003, Pat Jenkins presented awards to youngsters Helen Stout, Shy Sausedo, and Megan Wayne, and other recipients chose prizes from a prize box. Trustworthiness was the Pillar for July, and kids focused on all the Pillars. They also mentored new students in summer camp. In August, the 4-H had Illusions and Puppetry at the Center, and the children made puppets and had fun in general. Other summer activities included field trips, gymnastics and soccer.
The Center was already planning activities for CHARACTER COUNTS! Week in October. Each child will dress as his or her favorite hero or friend and take a partner to march across the post to the housing areas, in "A Walk on Character Day." Parents, staff, and friends will help the walk begin. “Our goal is to unite all together for character,” says Debby Shepard. “It’s what our world and children's future is about.”
