Hunter Army Airfield, GA: CHARACTER COUNTS! Every Day

At this Savannah post, caregivers use CHARACTER COUNTS! every day in the school age and middle school/teen program. According to School Age and Youth Services Director Terri McMillan, activities include:

1. Group meetings to discuss the Six Pillars

2. Skits performed by kids on the Six Pillars

3. Community activities, such as baking cookies for MP's and firefighters of HAAF, cleaning the Community Park , and making flag pins in remembrance of 9/11

4. Letters written to each parent of the Youth Center deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom throughout their deployment

5. Making and hanging yellow ribbons around the building

6. Games and similar play incorporating the Six Pillars

7. Peaceable Table, a conflict resolution method where children solve their disputes respectfullly

8. Parent appreciation dinners and luncheons prepared by children and staff

9. Visits to a nursing home by older youths, who bring residents gifts and play games with them.

10. A wanted board, where children and adults can post pictures of others when they see them showing good character. They put up a certificate and a brief description of the Pillar exhibited.
