At Churchill County Junior High, the student council sponsored a design contest for T-shirts that that incorporated the Six Pillars of Character and “CCJHS,” the school initials. The student council chose the winner, Brittania A, on October 25, and an honorary award for Best Artistic Value went to Carlos P.
Teachers regularly select “Characters of the Month.” They each nominate one student, and then the CHARACTER COUNTS! committee chooses a girl and boy from both the seventh and eighth grade who exemplify the Pillar of the Month. Honorees receive certificates, CC! ribbons and gift passes to the local movie theater. The winners for September (trustworthiness) were Reto G. and Keize L. in the seventh grade, Blake M. and Gwen E. in the eighth. In October the school celebrated citizenship in honor of the 9/11 tragedy and in support of our troops. The student council tied red/white/blue material to a chain-linked fence in the image of the American flag.
