Reston kicked off its celebration of CC! Week at the Halloween Hoe Down in the Town Center shopping complex. Over 500 people joined in the fun-filled evening. The Hoe Down featured hay wagon rides, bluegrass and country music by Second Time Around, live entertainment by the Bull Run Cloggers, face painting, balloon sculptures, and much more. Midway through, Fairfax County Hunter Mill district supervisor Catherine Hudgins presented the official Reston CHARACTER COUNTS! Community Proclamation. The highlight of the evening came when students from Herndon Middle School and a youth group from YMCA of Reston sang CC! songs. Parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, shoppers and restaurant-goers all stopped to listen to the message the children were conveying.
In addition to handing out CC! stickers, pencils, and bookmarks, CC! Reston presented awards at its Second Annual "Do the Right Thing" Essay and Poster Contest during the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration on January 21, 2002.
