The Humphreys County Alliance for a Drug-Free Tennessee and local law-enforcement groups have led efforts to bring CC! to this part of the state. Squad cars of the Waverly Police Department and Humphreys County Sheriffs — along with school buses and other city vehicles — sport CC! license plates and logos. The Waverly Wal-Mart sells these items to help raise funds for character-education activities, such as the "CHARACTER COUNTS! in the Classroom" elementary schools program developed by the Waverly Police Department. As word spread about the program, various groups in the community became involved and worked together to create resources and activities such as:
CC! calendar and CC! brochure.
CC! website (www.geocities.com/Athens/Thebes/9804), including general information, a photo album and a monthly calendar.
E-mail group (charactercounts@egroups.com) to facilitate communication about CC! activities and character education.
CC! information and articles in each issue of the News-Democrat and Shopper’s Guide newspapers.
4-H essays on the Six Pillars in newspapers.
Bumper sticker contest coordinated by Humphreys County 4-H.
Renaming of hallways at Waverly Elementary to emphasize the Six Pillars (e.g., Respect Way, Trustworthiness Blvd., etc.)
CC! saying of the day announced each morning at Waverly Central High School and at Lakeview School.
Local business professionals visited schools to speak about ethical decision making.
CC! flag flown at the Dixie League Field. (Due to high demand, more CC! flags were produced and distributed to residents.)
Six Pillars of Character colored banners displayed at the check-out area in Wal-Mart.
