The Reno City Council has designated Reno a CHARACTER COUNTS! City, and New Hope for Nevada is working to make the official designation a behavioral reality.
The organization conducted four character education workshops in October and November, 2000, for student leaders from six of the seven Washoe County School District high schools. These four-hour workshops taught students to plan promotional events at their schools for the Six Pillars of Character, and New Hope has arranged for volunteer adults to encourage and supervise their follow through.
They plan to sponsor four more workshops in 2001, and to train high school students to teach the Six Pillars to their counterparts in elementary and middle schools.
