Harnett County, NC: Students at Local Elementary Sign Anti-Taunting Pledge

Sticks and stones may break bones, but hurtful words can break a spirit. To help kids understand the consequences of what they say to each other, Harnett County required its students to sign an "anti-taunting pledge." The Harnett Elementary School in the town of Dunn signed a version of this pledge as their main CC! Week activity — a small, simple act that could have major repercussions. Why not give it a try in your school?

‘No-Taunting Pledge’

• I will pledge to help solve problems rather than cause them.

• I will remove teasing from my own behavior and try to help others do the same.

• I will do my part to make my school and community a safe place by being concerned about others.

• I will show others that I am a caring person.

• I will remove bad words towards others from my language.

• I will not let my words or actions hurt others.

• If others cause problems, I will keep trying to help solve them.
